Lyon is one of France's big student cities (around 165,000 students (nearly 200,000 across the Lyon metropolis)), so there is always something on. Here are the recurring events worth knowing, the going-out scene, and - most useful - the official agendas that list what is happening right now.

Going out: where students go
In Lyon, the student going-out scene centres on a few areas:
- Vieux Lyon - UNESCO Renaissance quarter packed with bouchons, wine bars and pubs at night.
- La Croix-Rousse - Former silk-weavers' hill, bohemian bars and terraces, nicknamed the Montmartre of Lyon.
- La Guillotière - Cosmopolitan district popular with students, alternative bars and late-night spots.

How do I find out what is on in Lyon this week?
Use the official live agenda (linked above) - it is kept up to date. University and ESN pages also post their own events. We do not list specific dates here because they change; the agenda is always current.
Are student events expensive?
Many of the big ones are free (street festivals, open-air events, museum nights). University and ESN events are usually cheap or free for members. Budget a little for going out, and use the CROUS restaurants to keep food costs down.
How do I get home at night?
Check the city's night transport before you go out (night buses or late metro/tram, where they exist). Plan your route home in advance, keep some battery, and travel with people you know when you can.
